Luxurious Fabric Find - Groves Brothers

Yesterday in our travels, besides drooling over the new offerings from Quadrille and China Seas fabrics and admiring LuluDK's line, we discovered a fabric line we had not seen before - Groves Brothers out of Texas. The fabrics are hand-printed and based on the traditional methods of Venetian printing. The results are beautiful, the fabrics look old and the colors are sumptuous. Proud as a Peacock

There is a reason peacocks are proud - look at those feathers. Our fascination with this beautiful bird, which originates from India and Sri Lanka, goes back thousands of years. We have always treasured the tail feathers, and until the last two hundred years, the peacock was a dining delicacy for the upper classes of many societies.

Peacocks are such a feast for the eyes that they have always been an inspiration for and subject of many facets of interior design. They have been featured on fabric, wallpaper, china, rugs, pillows, and of course paintings. Following are some wonderful images of this regal bird in the design world.

The great southern writer Flannery O'Connor was deeply interested in, loved and raised peafowl on her farm Andalusia in Milledgeville, Georgia. She describes them so well:

“When the peacock has presented his back, the spectator will usually begin to walk around him to get a front view; but the peacock will continue to turn so that no front view is possible. The thing to do then is to stand still and wait until it pleases him to turn. When it suits him, the peacock will face you. Then you will see in a green-bronze arch around him a galaxy of gazing, haloed suns.”

I saved the best for last. The dealer, Blue Rose Antiques in Dallas, GA (christysolomon@mindspring.com)told me she used to have five of these zany chairs - this is the only one left. $1250

Beauty in strange places...

Like the drugstore parking lot. I saw this just now...it was a full arc, but but the time I stopped to snap the picture, it was only this. The full rainbow was breathtaking.

Field Trip Report - Treasure Hunter

Let me begin with the fact that I have an awful cold and am really foggy, so the photos from my field trip are a little off. My camera on my phone is so much better than my old one though - so at least we have that. I love a good field trip and decided not to let being sick stop me.

So, of course I went to Scott's at the Atlanta Expo - it's the second weekend of the month after all. I hit all of my favorite dealers and strolled the entire South building. Skipped the North building since I felt crummy. One of my favorite things about being a designer is the treasure hunt part. Roaming around looking for the "perfect thing for that one spot" is heaven to me.

Here are the treasures I spotted today - with prices listed (if I can remember them).Those lovely stools above are $850 for the pair and are at the first booth you see when you walk in the far left door of the South building.


Pillows are $75 each - great price! Love the bench, great at the foot of a bed, but no one was there to tell me the price.

These are great chairs and are $500 for the pair, at the Antiques and Decorative Things booth.

The best news of the day is that I scored a great buy, which I am working on rehabilitating and will blog about that when it is finished.
