House of the Week

Knollwood

Another Shutze classic. Built in 1929 for the Kiser family, it's in the same neighborhood as last week's house of the week. This one is unbeatable...

It's for sale. Listing here.

  1. Wow that is quite beautiful..love the limestone entrance, it reminds me of a smaller scale Old Westbury Gardens...just so classic and timeless, everything built during that decade was amazingly gorgeous!

  2. I do not recall seeing this house with the distinctive porte cochere before. And I always love a distinctive garden elevation. Thanks for the treat!

  5. I agree Doug - the purity of the form is marvelous! So much of Shutze's work takes my breath away.

  6. On a street of mansions this is special. Not sure if you can tell: it presents it's gable end to the street, all you get are tiny glances. It looks substantial, solidly on the ground, but not gigantic. You can't see the details very well but you get a sense of them. The driveway frames the little fountain with it modest jet. If we can't make the open house - if they even do open houses for places like this - we'd better do a drive-by before spring.
