Crops - As In Corn! And New Interior Photographs of This Tudor House

This is really cool. The owners of the empty lot next to this beautiful house have a big garden - I see corn. Wonder what else they planted? I love a garden of fresh vegetables in the summer...

Bill Baker designed this house which was built in 2007/08. Rabaut Design Associates did the interior design. The kitchen in the house was featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Kitchen of Year Contest.

While I was sleuthing around trying to find out who the builder of this house was (it's Lester Custom Homes), I discovered photos of the house right after it was finished. It is surprising how different the house looks decorated versus raw. I really enjoyed looking at these photos because this house was built at the same time mine was, right around the corner and I always wondered what the inside was going to look like. I like seeing the house with no furniture. The house is Tudor, but the inside is not all dark wood. It's a bright fresh approach to Tudor style. Let's look at the photos...

I love seeing all of the architectural detail - notice the stone floor, I always wondered what they put on the floor.

Brookhaven Beauty

I drove by this house last week and noticed it immediately. It's charm and detail draw you right in. I particularly like the rail above the porches. This house is for sale and Beacham and Co. has the listing.

Parlez-Vous Français?

I happened upon Marie Claire Maison the other day while I was researching a post. At first I thought - darn, it's in French I can't read it - but then my brain kicked in and I remembered that I took 5 years of French and I in fact could read much of what was on the website. Very cool - also, it made me feel younger than my current middle age. My brain is still somewhat responsive!

So, I love the images on Marie Claire Maison. Many of the rooms are not as finished as American houses. They are inviting, lived in, beautiful, aged and not perfect.

Red Kitchens - love 'em or not?

I have a red kitchen. Not the cabinets, the walls. Many designers will tell you that red in the kitchen is a big no no. That it's too strong a color, that it's not relaxing, that you will be stressed when you cook in a red kitchen. (Mark Hampton wrote in his book On Decorating that kitchens and bedrooms should never be red.) I disagree, mainly with respect to kitchens. I'm not sure I would want to sleep in a red bedroom. But if that makes you happy go for it, because I love my red kitchen! The red is warm and enveloping and very homey - all words I would associate with kitchens.

When we were building our house, and the kitchen was coming together, the site supervisor told me one day that my kitchen might be an homage to the University of Georgia since their colors are red and black (I live in Atlanta). I was worried (I love UGA but not enough to have a UGA theme kitchen!), but calmed down when my better sense kicked in. It doesn't look like the UGA Spirit Store.

I adore red in a kitchen. Before I painted my walls red, I thought hard about painted red lacquer cabinets. Following are images of red kitchens to inspire us....
