Merry Christmas from Atlanta!

May you be blessed

With the spirit of the season, which is peace,

2013 Cathedral Antiques Show Hosts Internationally Acclaimed Interior Designer Miles Redd

The 2013 Cathedral Antiques Show is pleased to welcome interior design sensation and Atlanta-native Miles Redd as the featured speaker at this year’s event. Miles will share stories and insights from his new book, The Big Book of Chic. The event will be held at The Cathedral of St. Philip on Thursday, January 31st at 11 AM.

Miles Redd design

Architectural Digest calls Miles Redd “the spiritual heir to high-society tastemakers of the 1930s and ’40s.” Miles is known for his quirky brand of cozy glamour. His unique aesthetic vision is characterized by playful mélanges of high and low, invigorated with whimsical splashes of color and modern gestures. His trademark approach to design has brought to life rooms infused with boldness, fantasy and sophistication. Miles’ new book, The Big Book of Chic, published by Assouline (Fall 2012), is a lavishly illustrated volume that will be an inspiration to anyone interested in spirited, eclectic design.

Tickets are $40 and provide guests with access to the Antiques Show, a champagne reception, and lecture with Miles Redd followed by a special book signing with the author.

All event proceeds benefit Refugee Family Services, a not-for-profit that aids refugee women and children in the metro Atlanta area helping them to achieve self-sufficiency by providing education and economic opportunities.

Christmas Garland

This year, I'm going to hang garland over the inside of my front door. I have had this photo saved for a couple of years and it's my inspiration. The last time I tried this project I couldn't find the right garland. This time I found the perfect garland for the spot , and it is sitting in my entrance hall now! Can't wait to see how it turns out. We are putting our tree in a new location and I think the garland will look beautiful with all of the other decorations. Will post pictures once it's complete.

Sneak Peek of 2013 Cathedral Antiques Show Tour of Homes!

Save the date for the 2013 Cathedral Antiques Show Tour of Homes. The tour will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 11am-5pm, and five stunning Atlanta houses will be featured. Many of these houses have never been on a house tour before! You will not want to miss this amazing opportunity to visit houses designed or renovated by architects Norman Askins, McAlpine Tankersley, Stan Dixon, Gil Schafer, Charles Heydt and Ken Lynch. And absolutely not to miss is a landmark Atlanta estate designed by Philip Shutze!
This Fall I had the pleasure of writing about the houses, and Atlanta photographer Emily Followill beautifully captured the essence of each house inside and out. Emily and I had a great time working with the owners, architects and interior designers to find out the story behind each house. Interior designers featured on the tour include: Atlanta's own Miles Redd, Huff-Dewberry Inc., Robert Brown Interior Design, Melanie Turner Interiors, and Lilla Costello.

The 2013 beneficiary for all proceeds from the Cathedral Antiques Show and Tour of Homes is Refugee Family Services in Stone Mountain.

House of the Week

Architect Gil Schafer's Hudson Valley house. This has always been one of my favorites. His book, The Great American House, is wonderful and would make a great Christmas gift.

House of the Week

Hunter House, c. 1883
It's been called the most photographed house in Georgia. This eclectic Victorian house was built in 1883-84 for Joshua Hunter and combines Second Empire and Queen Anne Styles. The asymmetry and gingerbread details of the house are charming and visually captivating.
The house is for sale - click here for the listing.
