Not really. While my pillow hating but tolerant husband was out of town on Friday, I finally escaped from my house (can you say cabin fever) and guess what I did? Bought some more pillows! Fluffed this corner of the stair hall. Fun, quick project! The hubbie was real quiet when he walked in....

House of the Week

photograph above by Van Jones Martin
Our House of the Week is another Lewis "Buck" Crook house (last week was a Crook house also) . I am enamored of this architect and have been driving all over town looking at his classic, sometimes quirky, always beautiful houses. This house is in Brookwood Hills - one of my favorite Atlanta neighborhoods. It was built in 1928 for William A. Parker, Jr. and the Parkers added a garage in 1953. The Parkers sold the house to Anne and Bradley Hale in 1964. The house is featured in Bill Mitchell's book Classic Atlanta.
From the Lewis Crook website:
"After a serious fire in March of 1996, the Hales hired Atlanta architect, Norman Askins, to restore their home. Careful study of Buck's original tracings brought to light the fact that, probably because of the depression of 1929, the house had not been built exactly as designed. For example, Buck's design called for 9-piece moldings throughout the interior of the house: economic belt-tightening dictated 3-piece moldings in 1929. Mr. Askins restored the home to Buck's original specifications."
An interior photo of the house by Van Jones Martin:

My pictures of the house....bad lighting - sorry!
From this angle you can see the 1996 addition.

Stylish Blogger Award

Thank you, thank you, thank you to Design Chic for passing along the Sylish Blogger Award to Whitehaven! What a nice surprise in the middle of a long, cold, snowy week in the South. After you receive the award here's what you do:
1) Thank & link back to the person who awarded you.
2) Share 7 things about yourself.
3) Award 10 great bloggers that you recently discovered.
4) Contact those bloggers and tell them about the award.
Seven things about Whitehaven:

1. There are two of us Whitehaven - we are friends and business partners in our interior design firm in Atlanta. I do most of the blogging, but Jane Douglas is right there with me every step of the way.
2. Jane Douglas is a double first name - her last name is Reynolds.
3. We have known each other for twenty years - since we both lived in Richmond, Virginia in the late 80's.
3. Our daughters went to preschool together and have the interior design eye.
4. Both of us have mothers and grandmothers who love to move furniture - all the time!
5. We love all things Chippendale (see our logo).
6. We love, love, love interior design and houses and we love helping our clients create beautiful environments.
7. We believe that original artwork makes the home come alive.
One more thing to know about me is that I don't always play by the rules! I'm a little bit of a rebel. So for the Stylish Blogger Awards we picked ten great blogs that we love, but they aren't all new to us. The first two below are new blogs and are new to us. The next eight blogs are not new to us. They are all wonderful, interesting blogs, each with a unique point of view and are Atlanta based blogs. Without further ado - our Stylish Blogger Awards go to:
These two blogs are new to us and the blog world:
1. The Devoted Classicist

2. The Enchanted Home
We keep up with these six terrific Atlanta bloggers on a regular basis:
3. The Architecture Tourist

4. This Photographer's Life

5. High Gloss Blue

6. A Curated Lifestyle

7. From the Right Bank

8. Style Court

These two bloggers set the standard high here in Atlanta blog world and beyond. How could we not pick these two stylish and creative design blogs and our good friends:
9. Peak of Chic

10. Things That Inspire

Have a great time perusing these blogs and thanks again to Beth and Kristy of Design Chic for our Stylish Blogger Award.
Happy weekend! I think the snow is melting today - yay!!!

Atlanta's Peachtree Heights East in the Snow
Also known in Atlanta as the Duck Pond neighborhood, here's a walking tour of my neighborhood in the snow...
Kay Douglass' house
One of my all time favorites!
This one is a Neel Reid and used to look very much like the Neel Reid house I grew up in until the owners added the wrap around porch.
This charming house was built a few years ago.
Frank Neely was the architect on this house built in 2004-05.
I have always loved these two up on the hill. Frank Neely was the architect when the house on the left was renovated.
Two cozy bungalows....
This house was a one story cottage before its renovation several years ago. I adore this house.
One of the first houses built in the neighborhood in the 1920's.
Built about 10 years ago, this house is in the style of a Charleston row house.
I hope you enjoyed your walking tour of Peachtree Heights East. I think the eclectic mix of styles and sizes makes it very visually satisfying. I do love my neighborhood!
