The Versatility of Grasscloth
right, interior design by Whitehaven
On a summer wallpaper shopping trip for a client we were amazed at the number of grasscloth papers currently available. Grasscloth wallpaper comes in many different patterns, colors, and textures. It's a great way to hide blemishes on old walls, and looks good in many different interior styles. In the Whitehaven designed room at right and below, the juxtaposition of the grasscloth and the high gloss orange paint is a winning combination, providing textural and visual interest.

We're happy with our dark painted glass-cloth room. From a distance you can't quite tell "what it is" about the walls.
ReplyDeleteLove grasscloth and you choose great example photos. The orange paint is really juicy.
ReplyDeleteYep. Huge fan. I've (gasp!) painted over it before and loved it just as much. Pretty images.
ReplyDeleteWhen we moved into our new house, I was shocked to see grass cloth on the walls. Unfortunately, it's fate was sealed when my husband decided to hang the tv above the fireplace. It came down (translation- was ripped off) soon after. But, there's still a little left in a small hallway/bar area. I'm keeping it. I love it.
ReplyDeleteI love the grass cloth look with the orange painted walls. This truly makes the room pop and draws the eye to the mini-bar as well as the the paintings hung on the grass cloth covered wall. Would this grass cloth be a good window covering as well? I came across your post this afternoon while browsing interior design blogs and the topic of window treatment selection was very interesting to me. It is true that you must dress your windows appropriately to bring out their true beauty. Thank you for writing and as a special thanks to you and your readers, I would like to offer a 20% off coupon using this code upon checkout: BLG20.
ReplyDeleteDid you actually paint over the grasscloth? I am moving into a home with a large den with grasscloth on all the walls. Can't seem to find any good information from someone that painted grasscloth.
ReplyDeleteI have not done it myself but you definitely can paint over grasscloth. It looks great that way. You might ask at your local paint store.
