House of the Week

I have long admired this beautiful, jewel box of a house while on my way to various errands around Buckhead. I love the symmetry, the scale, and the details (like the Chippendale porch railing, the painted detail on the porch pediment, the boxwood bushes and the black windows). It has pretty side gardens and a fountain.

  1. Interesting. I don't believe I've ever seen that house.

  2. I can't place it. Hint please. I doing my Conway Dr. pickup today, and cruising the area. I drive by one like this, a more simplified Greek revival with a tall columned porch, on Kirk Road in Decatur. Like your H of the W, it looks great every single time. Thanks.

  3. This one, a 3-parter with breezeway and garage. Very dignified like y'all's H of the W

  4. It's in Collier Hills. It's even better in person!

  6. I've just done my drive-by. It's a beauty and small. This suits my architectural optimism: small houses can/should be great.

But this house could never be built today, not in this neighborhood, not (in this quality) in any Atlanta neighborhood. It would have to be 4K square feet. 2-stories, with enclosed garages. It may even be in a 100-year flood plain.

Instead we get mansions and in this neighborhood finely designed mansions. But none-the-less houses that meet real estate and financial formulas.
